Discussion and possible action to request for Commissioners Court to authorize the Treasurer and County Attorney to collect and file suit, if needed, the expenses and cost due and owing Webb County from the requested manual recount by Jay Furman on the November 2024 General Election – Congressional District 28 race; and any other matters incident thereto.

Issue: Having lost by a margin of over 12,000 votes, a manual recount was requested and by Mr. Jay Furman for the November 2024 General Election – Congressional District 28 race.  Webb County Elections carried out the recount over several days at a cost of $30,942.02.  All part-time workers and expenses have already been paid by Webb County.  Even though request have been made for payment, to date no payment has been made.
 
Solution: The Texas Government Code section 113.902 states as “the county treasurer shall direct prosecution for the recovery of any debt owed the county, as provided by law, and shall supervise the collection of the debt.”
 
Result: Webb County will be paid for conducting the requested recount.
