- Meeting Date:
- 10/14/2025
- Title:
- Removal of steps
- Submitted By:
- Melinda Mata
- Department:
- Human Resources
Subject:
Discussion and possible action to approve the removal of Steps A–D from the current Webb County Wage Salary Scale in order to upgrade the starting pay for County positions, adjust maximum discretionary pay steps and provide a more attractive and competitive salary structure for recruitment and retention purposes and any other matters incident thereto.
Issue: The County’s current entry-level salary scale steps (A–D) no longer reflect competitive market rates, based on a preliminary review of benchmark positions conducted by the Management Advisory Group (MAG), the County’s wage and classification study consultant.
Solution: Removing these steps will increase the minimum starting salary across classifications, ensuring Webb County remains competitive with comparable governmental entities in attracting and retaining qualified employees.
Result: This adjustment is expected to enhance recruitment efforts, reduce turnover, and support the County’s long-term workforce stability.
