Discussion and possible action to approve a budget increase request to the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Grant Award VCO25-T-001 for use by the Webb County Veterans Service Office Transportation Program in the amount of Seventy Thousand ($70,000.00) Dollars to be distributed in the remaining grant year 2025-2026. Issue: On May 15, 2025, the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) authorized and awarded the Webb County Veterans Service Office $100,000 to operate the Veterans Transportation Assistance Program (VTAP) for the grant period July 1, 2025 through August 31, 2026. Demand for transportation services has increased, and TVC extended the duration of its grants by an additional two months. As a result, current funding is projected to be substantially depleted by April 2026, placing the program’s ability to sustain uninterrupted transportation services at risk for the remainder of the grant period.
Solution: Authorize submission of a budget increase request to the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Grant Award VCO25-T-001, in the amount of $70,000.00 to support the Webb County Veterans Service Office Transportation Program for the remainder of the 2025–2026 grant year.
Result: Approval will sustain VTAP services at the current level of demand and prevent service reductions for eligible Webb County Veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses by ensuring uninterrupted, no-cost transportation within a 200-mile radius to VA hospitals, specialty clinics, and other essential medical facilities—including regional centers in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Harlingen, and McAllen—and by continuing transportation support for basic needs (pharmacies, grocery stores, food pantries, and food delivery when needed). Funding will preserve continuity of care and access to essential services for Webb County Veterans and their dependents.
