Discussion and possible action to accept the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) General Assistance Grant Award No. VCO27-R-002, in the amount of One Hundred Seventy-Six Thousand Dollars ($176,000.00), for the continued operation of the Webb County Veterans Service Office Transportation Program during the 12-month budget period beginning September 1, 2026, and ending August 31, 2027; authorize the County Judge to execute all necessary documents; and address any other matters incident thereto. This grant requires no cash-match commitment and will have no impact on the General Fund. [Requested by David Garza, Veterans Service Office]

Issue: On November 24, 2025, the Commissioners’ Court authorized the submission by the Veterans Service Office of a grant application for Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) in an effort to enhance the services and support currently being provided to Webb County Veterans, Dependents and Surviving Spouses with no means of transportation to and from medical appointments which may not be available without further funding.  Authorization from the Commissioners’ Court is required in order to accept the award.

Solution: The Commissioners’ Court authorizes the acceptance of the state funds to continue to provide extended services for transportation to medical appointments within the Webb County area and up to 200 miles radius to address the needs of the transportation program participants. 
 
Result: Acceptance of the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Grant will enable the Webb County Veterans Service Office to continue providing comprehensive services to veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses throughout Webb County, including essential transportation  to medical appointments within a 200-mile radius—services that might otherwise be unavailable without this grant funding.
