Discussion and possible action to authorize the submission of the FY2026 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the City of Laredo, in an amount not to exceed $39,902.00, for eligible law enforcement-related expenses including equipment, minor tools, contractual services, training/travel, and supplies; authorizing the Webb County Judge to execute all relevant documents related to this grant; and any other matters incident thereto. This grant requires no matching funds and will not impact the General Fund. All required documents have been submitted and reviewed by the Economic Development Department and the solicitation is in compliance with Webb County Single Point of Contact (SPOC) procedures. Issue: The Webb County Sheriff’s Office requires supplemental funding for equipment, minor tools, contractual services, training/travel, and supplies to support and enhance law enforcement operations.

Solution: Authorize the submission of the FY2026 Justice Assistance Grant application in an amount not to exceed $39,902.00 to provide supplemental funding for eligible law enforcement equipment, services, training/travel, and supplies.

Result: Approval will allow the Webb County Sheriff’s Office to pursue federal grant funding for needed resources that will support law enforcement personnel and enhance the delivery of public safety services without impacting the County’s General Fund.

The FY2026 Justice Assistance Grant application will be submitted to the Bureau of Justice Assistance in conjunction with the City of Laredo. Webb County’s allocation for the FY2026 grant cycle is $39,902.00. The grant requires no matching funds.

Commissioners Court has historically authorized the submission of the Justice Assistance Grant application on an annual basis.
