Discuss, consider, and take appropriate action to approve the Agreement between Williamson County and Thermo Scientific Portable Analytical Instruments, Inc. for narcotics testing equipment, for the total amount of $25,619.64, pursuant to GSA contract #GS-07F-6099R, and authorizing the approval of this agreement.

Background

The approval of this Agreement will benefit the Williamson County Sheriff's Office with the ability to use a handheld scanner to test narcotics without opening packages or baggies to identify whether they are prescription or illegal drugs. The machine is capable of testing up to 500 kinds of drugs, including narcotics, stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens and analgesics and is a safety procedure to officers and jailers by reducing the handling of potentially lethal narcotics. The attached agreement details the purchase and the attached brochure explains how the machine is used. Legal, Contract Audit and Budget have reviewed this Agreement. The expenditure is being charged to line item 01.0410.0413.005008 Seized Funds. The department point of contact is Sgt. Heather Vargas.
