Discuss, consider and take appropriate action to authorize the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to apply for the Texas Department of Transportation FY2027 Selective Traffic Enforcement Program grant.

Public Background

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) annually awards Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grants to fund overtime costs for additional traffic enforcement within high-crash areas. Enforcement occurs year-round but is specifically required during the following periods: Christmas/New Year's, Spring Break, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Operation: Slow Down (July) and Labor Day. If awarded, Williamson County will receive approximately $39,832.80 to provide approximately 480 hours of additional traffic enforcement. A minimum match of $20% is required and will be met through administrative costs associated with the implementation of the grant; this match is approximately $9,971.06. The total amount of the grant is $49,803.86.  Staff recommends the following action: Authorize the Sheriff's Office to apply for the TxDOT FY2027 STEP grant and permit appropriate County department personnel to complete all documentation necessary for implementation.
