Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on a Proclamation recognizing May 3-9, 2026 as National Correctional Officers Week.

National Correctional Officers Week was established on May 5, 1984 by Former President Ronald Reagan. He saw the need to create a week for Correctional Officers to thank them for their services and celebrate their contributions to society. He stated that the position of Correctional Officer is essential to the day to day operations of these jails; without them, it would be impossible to achieve the foremost institutional goals of security and control. The duties of these officers have become increasingly complex and demanding. They are called upon to fill, simultaneously, custodial, supervisory and counseling roles. The professionalism, dedication and courage exhibited by these officers throughout the performance of these demanding roles deserve our utmost respect.
