Discuss, consider and take appropriate action to increase the Meal per diem rates related to travel for Fiscal Year 2023.
Background
The County Auditors Office, Budget Office and Human Resource would like to recommend an increase for Meal Per Diem rates beginning October 1, 2023. Currently the rates are $20.00 for day travel and $50 for overnight travel. The recommendation would be $25.00 for day travel and $59.00 for overnight travel. These rates have not been increased since Fiscal Year 2016. There is an IRS regulation that limits the overnight travel to $59.00. We are seeking the Commissioners Court approval for this increase now so that departments may be notified and can budget accordingly.
