Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on a request from Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to apply for a grant through the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for a swift water rescue boat and personal protective gear.
Background
For the past 20 years, Williamson County EMS has been a part of swift water rescue operations within the County. This project would provide a swift water rescue boat dedicated to WCEMS along with additional swift water protective gear. The LCRA grant program allows local governments to apply for grants of up to $50,000 with a 20% match requirement. Adding a swift water rescue boat to WCEMS adds additional resources to the county and surrounding areas in the event of major flooding. It will allow for greater coverage of rescuers, essentially serving as a force multiplier in times of disaster. It will also allow WCEMS to initiate rescue operations alongside other Williamson County First Responders quickly without having to wait for outside resources to be moved into the County.
