Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on a proclamation naming the month of November as "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month" in Williamson County.
Background
Pancreatic Cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer in the U.S., and it is difficult to diagnose as it is the only cancer that does not have a standard preventative screening strategy. With research and funding, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) has a goal of increasing the five-year survival rate to 20% by 2030. PanCAN is pioneering the advancement of an early detection strategy and is looking into the connection between high blood sugar and pancreatic cancer. Their goal is to develop a screening method that detects pancreatic cancer when it can be surgically removed.
