Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on the support of Hope House Academy from the Williamson County Community Recreation Fund in the amount of $200,000.
Public Background
Hope House Academy is an educational and therapeutic facility specifically designed for children with profound intellectual and developmental disabilities. They provide children with family-style homes, coordinated education, therapy, communication development, and life skills designed around their unique needs. Hope House was impacted greatly by the July 4th, 2025, floods that devastated parts of the Hill Country, causing the loss of a staff person’s life during the flood and damage to the therapy and school spaces of the facilities. They have a capital campaign that will provide a safe location on CR 285 that will blend the home and school environment, saving the children from over an hour's transportation one-way to receive education at Liberty Hill ISD. This will reduce the burden from the school district, while also reducing stress and dysregulation of children before learning can begin.
This initiative will align a team of caregivers, educators and therapists under one roof, increasing the joy of learning, quality of life and avoiding putting these disabled children on school buses at 5:00 AM. The educational services will be provided onsite by the UT Charter program, who will provide speech therapists that will integrate into the developmental learning and life skills program. Rebuilding of homes for 16 children has been completed with built-up foundations for future safety. This is a 100% capital campaign with a total projected cost of $1,200,000, with funding and donations currently secured of approximately $900,000. Funding from the Williamson County Community Recreation Fund will help Hope House become closer to achieving the $300,000 needed for a permanent solution for these children, helping them prepare for adulthood and a meaningful life with purpose. The project is ready to build.
