Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on moving forward with a Pooled Vehicle Program.
Public Background
During our FY27 budget kickoff workshop, a request was made to "resurrect" the Pooled Vehicle Program originally established back in October 2009 and subsequently terminated a few years later due to lack of use. In reviewing recent vehicle budget requests (specifically for passenger vans, new and replacement), the Budget office found several offices who might benefit from such. Transport needs across the county include training/continued education seminars for county employees, Jr. Deputy Academy, Citizens' Academy, and Veteran transport, just to name a few. In purchasing one passenger van for employee checkout, we could potentially reduce the need for several van replacements down the road, many of which are needed but underutilized, meeting age requirements but not mileage. The Budget Office is seeking interest/requesting approval to move forward with the development of a policy and procedure for this program to be brought to court for consideration. A draft of the document created back in 2009 is attached to gain a general understanding of how this program has worked in the past. Should the court vote to move forward with this program, the Budget Office would work with Legal, Risk, Fleet, IT and Audit to re-vamp/update this document as well as the program in general. In addition, funding would be recommended in the FY27 budget for such.
