Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on a resolution making September Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in Williamson County.
Background
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) recognizes September as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time to share resources and stories in an effort to shed light on this highly taboo and stigmatized topic. Since 2011, Alan's Hope has been dedicated to preventing suicides by promoting hope, awareness and support in Williamson County communities. During September, Alan's Hope will be sponsoring several events and activities in order to increase awareness of mental health issues including its second annual Alan's Hope "Guitars for Hope" 5K walk/fun on Sunday, September 30, 8:30 a.m. at Twin Lakes Park, 204 E. Little Elm Trail, Cedar Park. The run will be followed by mental and physical health activities and information until noon.
