Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on proclamation recognizing the month of September 2023 as national "Suicide Prevention Awareness Month".

Background

Suicide prevention and awareness is important to public health and is addressed in the 2023-2025 Williamson County Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) that is prepared by the Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD).  Mental Health and Well-being continues to be a top health priority in Williamson County and is important to its residents.  Goal 3 of the Behavioral Health Task Force Action Plan in the CHIP is "Williamson County will continue to work to reduce the stigma of seeking behavioral health services by increasing public awareness that mental healthcare is an important part of overall healthcare and wellness".  One of the objectives to help reduce the suicide mortality rate is to work with mental health providers, non-profits, churches, schools, first responders and the justice system to increase knowledge of risk factors of suicide and lifesaving resources that are available.  Suicide is preventable and there are resources available in Williamson County that can provide help and hope.   Everyone can make a difference by listening to friends and loved ones and speaking up.  Every life matters
