Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on a proclamation naming the month of October as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" in Williamson County.
Background
According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection and screenings are important to save lives. Although genetics is a factor in the occurrence of breast cancer, adopting healthy habits can help reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. Some of the things you can do are: ??????
* Maintain a healthy weight — obesity increases the risk of developing.
* Eat fruits and vegetables — 3.5 to 5 cups daily.
* Stay physically active — try to move at least 20 minutes every day.
* Do not smoke — even second-hand smoke to increase your risk.
* Limit alcohol consumption — frequent consumption can increase your risk.
* Schedule your screenings — be proactive, see your doctor and schedule regular health screenings.
