It fosters connection by turning appreciation for natural and cultural resources into hands-on stewardship, uniting communities in conservation efforts that enhance environmental health and public enjoyment. First held in 1994 as Public Lands Appreciation Day with 700 volunteers, it grew under the coordination of the National Environmental Education Foundation into a nationwide movement embraced by federal, state, and local partners.
