Adopt resolution granting the District Attorney and/or Chief Deputy District Attorney authority to accept, on behalf of Yolo County, $457,148 in grant funds from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services for the Victim Witness Assistance Program. (No general fund impact) (Reisig)

Recommended Action

  1. Adopt resolution granting the District Attorney and/or Chief Deputy District Attorney authority to accept, on behalf of Yolo County, $457,148 in grant funds from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services; and
     
  2. Authorize the District Attorney and/or Chief Deputy Attorney to execute the grant award agreement including any and all amendments of extensions.

Reason for Recommended Action/Background

The Yolo County District Attorney's Office has been receiving the Victim Witness Assistance Program grant for 41 years.  This is a non-competivie grant that we apply for each year.

The Yolo County Victim Service Unit is designated as the only agency in the county to provide comprehensive services to victims of all crimes.  Services provided include services outlined in Penal Code section 13835, Marsy's Law, crisis intervention, emergency assistance, attending court dates with victims, etc. The unit also has a dedicated Senior Victim Services Program Assistant to be the point contact in any incident involving mass victimization.

Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies)

The Yolo County District Attorney's Victim Services Unit works closely with all local law enforcement agencies, Yolo County Office of Emergency Services, and Community Based Organizations to provide comprehensive services to victims of all crimes.

Funding was included in the FY23/24 adopted budget approved 9/26/23 and the FY24/25 adopted budget approved 9/24/24. Grant period is from 10/1/23-9/30/24.
