Recommended Action
- Adopt resolution granting the District Attorney and/or Chief Deputy District Attorney authority to accept, on behalf of Yolo County, the Board of State and Community Corrections, one-year no-cost extension to the Organized Retail Theft Vertical Prosecution Grant awarded October 1, 2023; and
- Authorize the District Attorney and/or Chief Deputy District Attorney to execute the grant award, the no-cost extension, and any or all amendments and extension.

Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The Yolo County District Attorney was awarded the Organized Retail Theft Vertical Prosecution grant through the Board of State and Community Corrections. The grant award was for $2,012,849 and the grant period was October 1, 2023 - June 1, 2027. The Board of State and Community Corrections has authorized a no-cost extension through June 1, 2028.
The Organized Retail Theft Vertical Prosecution unit focuses on investigation and prosecuting cases of organized retail theft, ensuring that defendants are held accountable through prosecution or alternative programs. This unit specialized in cases involving retail, shoplifting, and organized retail crime while establishing a strong working relationship with local retailers, loss prevention personnel, and local law enforcement to assist in the sharing of information, surveillance footage, and evidence gathering to build stronger cases.
The unit funds a Deputy District Attorney IV (100%), a DA Investigator II (100%) and a Paralegal (50%).
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies)
The Organized Retail Theft Vertical Prosecution Unit will collaborate with local law enforcement agencies as well as retailers. This list includes but not limited to, Davis PD, Woodland PD, West Sacramento PD, Winters PD, UC Davis PD, Yolo County Sheriff, the California Highway Patrol, Raleys, Ikea, Walmart, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Target, Home Depot, etc.
