Reason for Recommended Action/Background
There is a need for residents to be prepared for the next emergency. Accordingly, the Yolo County Commission on Aging and Adult Services (YCCAAS) identified the necessity to address the unique needs of older adults and persons with access and functional needs regarding emergency preparedness and evacuation as they represent the majority of fatalities in an emergency. The Commission developed a Disaster Preparedness Subcommittee to learn about the current County practices and resources and industry best practices to develop a recommendations report.
On January 28, 2020, the Board received a presentation from YCCAAS related to emergency preparedness and evacuation of older adults and persons with access and functional needs. On September 1, 2020, staff returned to the Board with an action plan to implement the recommendations. The attached document (Att. A. YCCAAS Final Recommendations) captures the initial recommendations, the staff response, and the YCCAAS Disaster Preparedness Subcommittee updated recommendations from the September meeting. The attached document (Att. B. Updated Recommendations Progress) provides progress on each recommendation.
