Reason for Recommended Action/Background
In 2010, the Yolo County District Attorney created the High-Tech Crimes Unit. This unit was formed to manage the increasing amount of digital evidence in criminal cases.
The personnel in this unit are highly trained forensic examiners that extract evidence from cell phones, computers, game consoles, etc., and are able to testify in cases ranging from homicide, larceny, and child molestation.
We were first awarded this grant in April of 2021, with a grant period of 1/1/21-3/31/22. We are now in our second award cycle with a grant period of 4/1/22-6/30/23. The High-Tech Crimes Unit will be using these funds to receive their ANSI National Accreditation by 6/30/23. These funds will allow personnel to continue to receive the necessary training and hire a consultant to assist in this unit receiving their accreditation.
