Reason for Recommended Action/Background

In fiscal year 2023-2024, the District Attorney budgeted $3,330,941 for the DA's Consumer Fraud/Environmental unit. Of this, $747,673 was budgeted for services and supplies.  In prior years, this budgeted amount would have been enough for an entire fiscal year.

However, in FY 2023-2024, this unit is investigating a case that has made it necessary to increase the budget by $225,000.  This case has created unanticipated increases in travel, transcribing, and professional services which will continue through June 30, 2024.  It is not anticipated that this case will be resolved before FY 2024-2025.
