Strategic Plan Goal(s)
Collaborative CommunityReason for Recommended Action/Background
The Sheriff's Office is requesting to purchase a new metal detector to be placed at the in-person visiting area at the Yolo County Detention Facility. In the interest of staff, inmate, and visitor safety, this unit will be used to screen individuals for internalized or concealed items upon entry to or exit from the facility to prevent contraband items. The Sheriff currently uses two of the same devices in the Monroe and Leinberger buildings and is now requesting a third unit from the same manufacturer. Detention staff can move between buildings depending on their shift assignment. Therefore, it is important to maintain consistency of equipment and training to ensure accuracy of results. The metal detector was requested during the normal budget process for Fiscal Year 2025. However, due to limited ongoing and one-time funding being available, the budget augmentation requests were denied. Sheriff's staff has identified sufficient services and supplies budget in the COPS Detention Budget Unit that can fund the purchase of this item.
This equipment item will be purchased using budgeted FY 2024-25 funds. Because the item is a fixed asset, the Sheriff's Office is also requesting Board authority to amend the 2024-25 Authorized Equipment List.
