Reason for Recommended Action/Background

The current ordinance establishing the rules and regulations for County parks dates from the 1970s and remains largely unchanged since then.  County staff propose adopting a new ordinance that will rewrite the existing County Code governing parks by entirely replacing the existing language with new language.  The need for this update is to modernize the language, adjust for changes in state law, and reflect changes in the park system over the years that expanded the number of parks we have and added a greater variety of park facilities and types.

Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies)

County Counsel provided assistance in developing the ordinance revisions.
