Reason for Recommended Action/Background

Staff recommends Board approval for select department closures during the upcoming holiday period, when service demands are typically reduced. The County’s official holidays during this period are December 25 and January 1. Employees who wish to take additional time off to coincide with the office closures must use their available leave balances to cover the absence.

The following departments are requesting approval for closure:

Agriculture — Closed December 24, 2025, through December 26, 2025, and January 1, 2026, through January 2, 2026.

Assessor/Clerk-Recorder/Elections

Assessor — Closed at noon on November 26, 2025. Closed at noon on December 24, 2025, through January 2, 2026.
Clerk-Recorder — Closed at noon on November 26, 2025, December 24, 2025, and December 31, 2025.
Elections — Closed at noon on November 26, 2025, December 24, 2025, and December 31, 2025.

Community Services — Closed December 24, 2025, through January 2, 2026.

Landfill and Animal Services — No closures.

County Administrator's Office (including Clerk of the Board) — Closed December 25, 2025, through January 2, 2026.

County Counsel — Closed December 25, 2025, through January 2, 2026.

District Attorney — No closures.

Financial Services — Closed at noon on December 24, 2025, through January 2, 2026.

General Services — No closures.

Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) — Closed December 26, 2025, and January 2, 2026. While offices will be closed to the public, we will provide 24-hour response for child and adult protective services; our behavioral health crisis services will remain available through our 24-hour phone line at 888-965-6647. Additionally, we will continue providing emergency CalWORKs homeless assistance.

Human Resources — Closed at noon on December 24, 2025. Closed December 25, 2025, through January 2, 2026.

Innovation & Technology Services — No closures

Library — Closed at 6 PM on November 26, 2025, and December 31, 2025. Closed on December 24, 2025.

Probation

Main Office (725 Court Street, Woodland) — Closed at noon on December 24, 2025, and December 31, 2025. Closed on December 26, 2025, and January 2, 2026.
West Sacramento Office (500 A Jefferson Blvd, Suite 100) — Closed at noon on December 24, 2025, and December 31, 2025. Closed on December 26, 2025, and January 2, 2026.
Juvenile Detention Facility — No closures.

Public Defender — Closed to the public (by appointment only) on December 24, 2025, through December 26, 2025, and December 31, 2025, through January 2, 2026.

Regional Child Support Agency — Closed December 24, 2025, December 26, 2025, and January 2, 2026.

Sheriff's Office — No closures
