Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The Board of Supervisors proclaimed a local state of emergency in connection with the Oakdale Fire on July 8, 2025 and, subsequently, the Board ratified the declaration of a local health emergency by Dr. Sisson on August 12, 2025. The Board further reviewed each state of emergency on August 26, 2025, September 23, and October 21, and determined that they should remain in effect. The same action is before the Board today because, under California law, after proclaiming a local state of emergency, the Board of Supervisors must review whether the proclamation should remain in effect at least every 60 days; the same requirement applies to local health emergency declarations except that state law requires review every 30 days.
Staff recommend that the Board ratify the continued existence of a local state of emergency and a local health emergency in connection with the Oakdale Fire. The incident site still requires testing and remediation, as described in the local health emergency declaration. Other work essential to addressing the incident, including coordination with local, state and federal agencies, is also continuing.
