Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The Sheriff's Office purchased a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, Vehicle #9536, to be used for patrol activities as part of the Capay Augmented Patrol (CAP) program. Because of the high number of miles, this vehicle has since reached its end of life usefulness for patrol or inmate transport, and will be replaced with equipment approved for purchase as part of the Fiscal Year 2026-27 Recommended Budget. However, this vehicle is still fit for use in other administrative capacities. The YTD has expressed a need for such a vehicle to assist them with day-to-day activities that would take them out of the office, such as site visits. The Board is requested to approve this transfer.
The County's Purchasing Agent is responsible for the surplussing of the county's personal property. The Purchasing Agent can do so in four ways: auctioning the personal property to the highest bidder, entering into a direct sale with a specific entity, declaring the personal property as scrap destined for disposal or recycling, or donating to another governmental or non-profit entity.
In this circumstance, donation to another governmental agency is recommended as the vehicle will continue to be utilized within the County to the benefit of County residents and programs.
