Reason for Recommended Action/Background
- Pursuant to California Elections Code Section 8203, in the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election, there were three contests for Yolo County Judge of the Superior Court offices with unopposed incumbent candidates who were not on the ballot. These candidates will also not appear on the ballot in the November 3, 2026, General Election as no petitions were submitted indicating a write-in campaign will be conducted for the offices. These nominated candidates can be declared reelected after administrative deadlines pursuant to California Elections Code Section 8203 on the day of the general election if they do not appear either on the primary ballot or general election ballot.
- Pursuant to California Education Code Sections 5326 and 5382 or to California Elections Code Section 10515, if the number of persons who filed a declaration of candidacy did not exceed the number of offices to be filled at the election, the qualified candidate shall be appointed as if elected at a district election at a scheduled meeting according to the relevant code. The Certificates of Facts include the results of the contests wherein the number of persons who filed a declaration of candidacy did not exceed the number of offices to be filled at the election. This recommended action completes the procedure for an appointment in lieu of election due to insufficient nominees for the November 3, 2026, General Election.
